Roshambeaux w/ Ides of June live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Roshambeaux: /rō/SHam/bō/

The truth is we're not like everybody else. We break a lot of rules and do things our own way. We're a big, rowdy modern electronically twisted rock duo that doesn't sound like anybody else even though they'd like us to say we're just like 21 Pilots, The Black Keys, Royal Blood or even The White Stripes. We're based in Atlanta, GA. We tour big cities and small towns in the Southeast and Midwest United States and treat them all the same because the only thing that matters are the people. We don't have "real jobs," because when we met in 2010 we decided that you can make what you love a job and that's what's "real." We have an album called "Illuminaughty," and we're super proud of it. We're in the studio working on our next release in between tour dates and we are confident it will be the best thing we've done thus far. We don't have an agenda. We just want you to have an experience.

All The Locals w/ In Business live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

All The Locals: 'It's been said the newest members of Atlanta's booming music scene have a sound that's a clear "amalgamation of blues, neo-soul, and rock-and-roll". Giving Pink Floyd and Maxwel a run for their money, All The Locals are no strangers to the industry. Atlanta-based producer, John Briglevich (who worked with the band on their newest set of rhythmically seductive songs), says, "...[their music is] hard to describe and that's why I dig it. I'm scrambling to try and make this [EP] sound as good as they do live." New EP and Tour out 2017 under new mgmt with Bread n' Circuses/ Sony Music In Business: Founded in 2012 in funky New Orleans, Louisiana, the Business is an organization of like-minded individuals dedicated to the creation and distribution of one product, and one product only: funk music. Although our mission is a simple one, we are steadfast in our purpose, bringing only the highest quality funk to our fans—aka consumers of the funk. Of course, high quality funk requires high quality ingredients, including, but not limited to: big fat grooves, tasty guitar licks, piping hot saxophones, spine-tingling vocals, individual musicianship, group dynamics, a sense of humor, and lots of love. Simply put, our original music is crafted from only “the finest shyeeeit.” Listening to the Business’ music can best be described as taking a musical journey—one with twists and turns, from craggy peaks to blissful meadows (as well as the occasional suspension bridge over rivers of molten lava). Our often irreverent lyrics cover topics both commonplace and fantastical, taking the listener from a visit with a sidewalk vendor selling frozen treats, to the epic adventures of a secret crime-fighting organization (Spoiler alert: that’s us.). And now the funky fruits of our labor are starting to ripen. Our very first album of all original music, Cop Show, was released in February 2016, and we've spent every moment since performing locally and touring nationally to spread our funky seed. But this is just the beginning. We won’t rest until our mission is complete. And the funk just keeps getting stronger.

Universal Sigh w/ Voodoo Visionary live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Universal Sigh is a high energy, metamorphic rock show. Hailing from Athens, GA the foursome features a two-guitar attack and driving rhythm section, producing versatile music which reflects a deep fondness for artists such as Radiohead, Snarky Puppy, and Umphrey’s McGee. Influenced by a myriad of musical styles, the quartet has crafted a diverse catalog, which includes both lyrical tunes and instrumental arrangements. Each song is a voyage, with harmonious melodies soaring through epic peaks and dramatic descents into electrifying funk grooves. Fluid and dynamic, the Sigh is equipped with an abundance of compositions to energize any musical atmosphere.

Universal Sigh’s guitarist and drummer Pace and Jones Maynard, developed together as young musicians playing long hours in their parents’ basement. In high school, Jones met songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Terry, and the two took playing together like fish to water. The expansive music scene in Athens paved the way for the band to meet Austin Parker, a soulful vocalist with a love for laying down the bass. Pace, Steve, Jones, and Austin have been at the forefront of all song writing and live performances. However, the band frequently collaborates original music with special guests, including full brass sections, percussion, and guest vocalists. Their openness allows every show to be a special surprise.

May 2016 ushered in the anticipated release of Universal Sigh’s first album, Atoms & Void. While improvisation is a staple component of the live show, Atoms & Void displays a thoughtfulness to innovatively diversify arrangements of rock songs, blues tunes, and futuristic jazz alike. The debut album explores the uncanny nature of song structure and provides lyrical content inspired by the turmoil and beauty of the human condition. The core four presents Atoms & Void, as a material extension to connect the listener to the inherent music within everyone.

Voodoo Visionary:
Voodoo Visionary hails from the dirty south musical mecca of Atlanta. Their improvisational funk dance music delicately balances a tight, grooving rhythm section with diverse and dexterous keys and masterful guitar licks to create a sound the group calls psychofunk. Influenced by a wide array of artists such as Parliament Funkadelic, the Meters, the Grateful Dead, and Talking Heads, Voodoo Visionary has a uniquely blended sound that’s guaranteed to put the 'oogie in yo boogie.

The band is made up of Dennis Dowd (keys), Jimmy Lynch (bass), Scott MacDonald (vocals), Mac Schmitz (drums), and Mike Wilson (guitar). Wilson, Schmitz and Lynch have been playing together for over 8 years, during which time they built a unique chemistry that allows for exceptional improvisation during live shows. MacDonald joined the group in July 2013 as the lead vocalist and Voodoo Visionary began writing new music and playing shows immediately. Dowd was added to the band in March 2014 providing a missing link that enhanced the band’s distinctive sound, and the group has since taken off in the Atlanta music scene. Jose Rivera (percussion), Martin Anderson (saxophone), and Ben Otieno (trumpet) are regular additions to the live show and are featured on Voodoo Visionary's sophomore album.

Voodoo Visionary released their debut album, Spirit of the Groove in March 2015. Over the past two years, while playing across the southeast, the band has shared the stage with acts such as Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe with Jimmy Herring, TAUK, Col. Bruce Hampton, Zach Deputy, Earphunk, Roosevelt Collier, Jerry Joseph, The Main Squeeze, and Futurebirds. The band has been performing at venues like Variety Payhouse, Terminal West, the Georgia Theatre, Barrelhouse South, Ringside Cafe, and Crowbar, as well as major festivals such as Counterpoint Music and Arts Festival and Sweetwater 420 Fest. The band has made live radio appearances on WUGA's It's Friday program, WMNF's In the Groove, and WPRK's Green Eggs and Jams. In 2016, they have excelled further into the regional and national music scene with festival performances at Sweetwater 420 Fest, Purple Hatters Ball, Great Outdoors Jam, Imagine Festival, Hookahville, and Backwoods Music Festival. They are scheduled to release their second studio album, “Off The Ground,” in February 2017.

Voodoo Visionary’s first album, Spirit of the Groove, draws from the various musical influences found among the band members. Elements of funk, jazz, disco and rock n’ roll combine to create an inimitable sound. Tracks such as “All Week,” “Salt” and “Parasite” have compositional elements reminiscent of Frank Zappa and Return to Forever, while “Take the Wheel” evokes a style similar to Phish. The driving grooves of “The Heathen,” “Testify” and “Dancin’ Feet” make it nearly impossible to sit still while listening, and the “Kang Gang Anthem” hints at elements of Pink Floyd while paying homage to the festival scene the band holds so close to their hearts. Spirit of the Groove was recorded live in the studio to capture the raw energy and showcase the improvisational expertise that the band brings to their live show.

Back City Woods live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

The South. A region loaded with history to say the least. What can be said about it that hasn’t already been said? Who needs another country act with a new angle on this sordid tale? Besides, if you’ve eaten your Grandma’s peach cobbler, haven't you already had the best? A band out of Middle Georgia called Back City Woods has thought about these perplexing issues and answers with yet another question. Do you still hear the call of the westerly winds whispering through the pines at dusk while rocking in a chair on the porch sweet tea in hand, alone, with the thoughts of a life that could have been? If your answer is yes, there’s hope left for the Southern life after all. If no, spin that dusty record again for old times sake. For the future is in the past, and we’re all dead anyway. You already know everything this band has to say, but they say it anyway, and they’re saying it with soul: louder & longer. They’ve released two award winning EP's and now have a full length album: The Light. The Dark. The Dusk. So what does this album bring to the table? Fiddles, guitars, banjo, songs about heartbreak, small towns, and all that Southern stuff. Also, it’s new, and it’s alive. Like you, like me, like the South. We’re here together sharing a semblance of similar existence, and everyday is new. So why experience the tales of the South from those who are decades in the past? There comes a time when Grandma can't make peach cobbler anymore, do we all stop eating cobbler? As life moves forward, as you move forward, so does music. Back City Woods: The South, today.
