Trae Pierce and the T-Stones live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Grammy Award-winning bassist Trae Pierce is leading a wild new musical experience known as Trae Pierce & the T-Stone Band (TPTS). Defined by hard-edged funk and hip-hop mixed with rock and blues, TPTS has developed a high-energy live show with a modern feel that also recalls the unstoppable grooves of Bootsy Collins: they “wants to funk you up!” Trae is a world-class bassist and four-time Grammy Award-winner (with the legendary Blind Boys of Alabama) who cut his bass chops as a member of The Ohio Players. From his Florida home, this bass “monster” has hand-picked a vibrant young group of musicians with limitless energy and extreme talent, and together they’ve been tearing up dance floors throughout the Southeast with a genre-blending twist of funk-rock rhythms that bring out the best in every beat. After sharing the stage with funk powerhouses George Clinton, Parliament Funkadelic, The Revivalists, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, The Dirty Dozen Brass Band, and The Main Squeeze among others, TPTS is ready to take their party nationwide, so get ready to experience a night of fun-and-funk, coming soon to a club, college or festival near you.

Angela Perley and The Howlin’ Moons w/ Roxy Roca live at The Hummingbird

$5

Armed with electric guitars, swooning vocals, and songs that split the difference between rock & roll and dreamy psychedelia, Angela Perley & the Howlin’ Moons pack the biggest punch of their career with Homemade Vision. Like the band’s debut, Hey Kid — an album whose kickoff track, “Athens,” earned Perley an International Songwriting Award in 2014 — Homemade Vision was recorded in the Howlin’ Moons’ hometown of Columbus, Ohio. Many of the songs were dreamt up somewhere along the highways and backroads that crisscross America, though, coaxed into life by a group of roots-rock road warriors who regularly play more than 100 shows a year. As a result, Homemade Vision is the sort of wide-ranging record that creates its own geography, building an imaginary place where the influences of David Gilmour, Tom Petty, Led Zeppelin, and Nebula all intersect. It’s also the work of a genuine band. Chris Connor’s guitar playing — a flurry of fuzz, crunch, twang and bang — occupies just as large a role as Perley’s voice, while Billy Zehnal’s bass — coupled with cymbal crashes and snare hits from an arsenal of heavy-hitting drummers — glues the mix together. Inspired by love, heartbreak, and everything in between, Homemade Vision is a battle cry from a band that’s spent years fighting the good fight, carving out their own brand of atmospheric, aggressive Americana along the way. Roxy Roca: No one leaves a Roxy Roca show dissatisfied. A sonic shot to the arm of Texas infused, powerhouse-southern soul and funk complete with a certain tightness only achievable after playing an average of more than 220 shows a year. Roxy Roca shows are like stepping into a tent-revival somewhere in the Deep South, and crooner Taye Cannon is here to speak the gospel. Each tune flows over with hooky guitar riffs, funky backbeats, slammin’ horn lines, and lyrics of love, heartache, and a message of choosing happiness above all else sung with a conviction and sincerity as only Roxy Roca’s green-eyed Soul-Cannon can deliver. Hailing from Austin, Texas, the band has come a long way in the short time it has existed. 2015 brought with it the release of Roxy Roca’s latest album, Ain’t Nothin’ Fancy, on Stag Records. Recorded at EAR Studio in Austin with producer Lars Goransson at the helm, the record captures the classic sounds reminiscent of Stax, Motown, and Domino Records. One might say the band wears its influences on its sleeve, and any member of the six-piece soul outfit would happily list off the forefathers of soul and funk. Now two albums deep, and hundreds of shows later, Roxy Roca has had the good fortune to share the stage with some incredible acts ranging from outright classics such as B.B. King, Tom Jones, and Lee Fields to more modern acts like Fitz and The Tantrums, Mayer Hawthorne, Trombone Shorty, and Vintage Trouble. The future looks bright for Roxy Roca, and there is no end in sight.

Tesheva live at The Hummingbird

$5

Complimentary musicianship and a unique sound brought four individuals together as the self-described Southern Psychedelic quartet, Tesheva. Drawing influence from funk, rock, blues, and progressive instrumental music, the local favorites create a one-of-a-kind atmosphere which lends itself to groovy vibes and spacey jams while not skimping on the rock-n-roll. Originally a trio, Vaughan Brenner on drums, Matt Dunaway on bass, and Caleb Hutson on guitar laid the foundation for the band and it's sound. With the induction of Michael McCoy in the spring of 2015, the four piece group began to identify and refine their brand of music dubbed "Southerndelic." Tesheva has seen success in Mississippi and Alabama after releasing their EP, and playing with local and regional acts. The band aims to play many more shows and release a full length album in the coming year.
