Swain and the Highway Souls live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Since the band's inception in summer 2014, Swain and the Highway Souls has created a great deal of buzz and anticipation in the Middle Georgia music scene. While a relatively new band, the musicians comprising the group bring over 50 combined years of professional performance experience coupled with advanced levels of musical education, training, and preparation. Prior to leading the band, Stephen Swain blazed through the southeast, performing in top venues in Nashville, Atlanta, and Macon as a promising singer/songwriter. He continues to work with vocal coach Torri Barnette-Broxton (formerly of Miami Sound Machine) and Grammy-winning artist Linda Davis. Guitarist Miles Benson has a great deal of experience performing in a number of unique mediums, primarily as a result of his time earning a degree in Music Education and Music Therapy at the University of Georgia. He also continues to improve his craft through individual and collaborative songwriting. Cliff Walton, keyboardist for the band, has over 25 years of performance experience through a variety of ensembles that have traveled and performed throughout the country. The newest member of the band, bassist Joe Palmer, has been a vital member of the Macon music scene for quite a few years now. Growing up around the likes of Chris Hicks of Marshall Tucker Band, among others, Joe has a unique bass style that adds a great deal to the band's sound. Finally, drummer Galen Jacobs brings a solid foundation to the band after having experienced an eclectic drumming career that started with high school marching drumline, has included touring with the Josh Daniel Band, and continues to develop through the study of numerous styles and techniques which can be heard in the music of Swain and the Highway Souls.

After Funk & Urban Soil at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

After Funk: After Funk is a fun filled, soul driven, funk-rock explosion. Hailed as “The grooviest band north of the border” (Live for Live Music), the Toronto based funk family have been blazing a trail through the North American music scene leaving only happy hearts and dancing feet in their wake. The combination of Yanick Allwood (keyboards & vocals), Jaime Rosenberg (drums), Justin Bontje (bass) and Phil Tessis (guitar) results in an infectiously fun show, as well as virtuosity and beauty that will challenge your musical mind. After Funk’s sound and hard work has not gone unnoticed; being selected as the Electric Forest’s Instrumental Forester in 2014 earned them two sets at the festival and they have served as support for Walk Off The Earth, Lettuce, Snarky Puppy, Dumpstaphunk, TAUK and more. The band has released 2 albums to help you prepare for the experience: ‘Til The Sun Comes Up features Canadian hip hop legend Choclair and earned over $10,000 in crowdfunding presales and their self-titled debut EP was mixed and mastered by Alan Evans of Soulive. Both albums promise to have you rocking out and singing along to catchy melodies and funky grooves. But if you truly want to find out what comes after the funk, you’ll just have to come experience it for yourself. Urban Soil: Urban Soil is focused on creating the best possible original music. The combination of all out, electrified, jam band inspired musical explorations and the more Americana, acoustic flavors makes Urban Soil truly unique. Sarah's powerful voice is complex and thought provoking, while being strong and soulful at the same time. Eric and the rest of the band provide a tight, concise backdrop for her to fully explore the sonic space.

HOWL live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

HOWL is a "is a raw, sometimes brazenly sexual rock and roll band that gets your feet moving and your palms a little sweaty. Denny Hanson and Chris Nylund have not only created music to easily sink your fangs into, but have done so with a more simplistic approach as a two piece, crafting songs with raw emotion and alluring synchronicity. I spoke with them about their new musical project HOWL, Allen Ginsberg, and guilty pleasure songs." ---Andrea Marlowe, 11th Hour
