Their well-crafted, heart-rich music is sonorous, ringing and romantic.” - Orlando Weekly “One of the most exciting new acts in our scene.” -Movement Magazine “I loved the sound of these guys. Another promising act blossoming from our very own Florida, I would definitely keep my eye on these guys.” - The Dropp “Watching a rock band perform on stage while their fans lose themselves to the music around them is an experience everyone should try at least once, and with such an expansive sound, The Dog Apollo delivers such an experience.” - Void Magazine Formed initially as an experiment in diverse songwriting, Rare Creatures has grown into a full on rock spectacle. Their sound navigates between heavy synth rock and melodic acoustic rhythms seamlessly from song to song, switching it up around every corner. Empire Strikes Brass live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Empire Strikes Brass (ESB) is a high energy Brass-Funk-Rock band hailing from the city of Asheville, North Carolina. Formed on the streets of their hometown, ESB is rooted in the New Orleans Brass Band tradition of second-line parades and deep moving grooves reminiscent of old school funk. Combining complex musical arrangements with thoughtful lyrical song structure, ESB can stretch out and dig deep when they are feeling it or keep things tight and concise. The fat sound of the horns paired with one dirty rhythm section makes the music downright psychedelically nasty! Founded in 2012, ESB intentionally stretches the boundaries of the stereotypical brass band paradigm, fusing sounds from various genres and weaving them together with the common thread of Brass. The diversity of the music within their sets keep audiences guessing what is next to come. Featuring rich group and strong lead vocals including Grammy Award winner Debrissa Mckinney (Secret Agent 23 Skidoo), ESB not only takes its audiences on a ride to the dark side and back instrumentally, they also use the force of soaring melody and lush harmony to transport the listeners to another dimension. The band released its debut album, "Theme For A Celebration" in 2017 and it was tapped as one of the top 100 album releases in 2017 by WNCW 88.7 radio. Since their conception, ESB has been a consistent fixture at various festivals throughout the east coast. They've had the pleasure of having Warren Haynes (Allman Bros. Band and Gov’t Mule) sit in with them at New Mountain Amphitheater in Asheville, NC and the honor of headlining four years in a row celebrating the life of Dizzy Gillespie in his hometown of Cheraw, SC, for the South Carolina Jazz and Heritage Festival. ESB has co-billed with such artists as Dr. John & Lettuce. The horns have sat in on performances with Galactic, The Big Something, and many others. ESB horn players JP Furnas, Paul Juhl and Alex Bradley are also featured on the live album compilation from world-renowned artists Beats Antique entitled “Creature Carnival” released in 2015. The band is known to regularly parade off stage into the audience leading a the crowd in a raucous procession around the venue before, during or after their set. Members of the band have also been expanding their musical resumes and repertoire. Notable side projects and performances include keyboardist Lenny Pettinelli’s recording and performing with Jazz is Phish featuring such artists as Jeff Coffin (Bela Fleck, Dave Matthews Band), Chris Bullock (Snarky Puppy), Michael Ray (Sun Ra, Kool and the Gang), the Chase Brothers and many more. The band's founder, saxophonist Paul Juhl, performed with John Oates (Hall and Oates) at MerleFest. In addition to her work with Skidoo, Debrissa McKinney has performed with artists such as Karl Denson and Laura Reed. ESB horn players Kyle Snuffer and Alex Bradley have recorded on Marcus King's upcoming 2018 release produced by Eric Krasno of Soulive and Lettuce.

Quiet Hollers w/ The Head live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Quiet Hollers formed in Louisville around the songwriting of singer/guitarist Shadwick Wilde, who originally formed the group with the idea of playing only one show—the CD release of his solo effort, Unforgivable Things, in 2010. The group’s debut, I Am the Morning, followed in 2013. The alt-country styled album was a limited success, spawning a cult following in the US and some international critical praise, allowing the band to continue touring on the DIY circuit, where changes in personnel and taste saw the band exploring territory beyond the genre. In 2015 the band’s self-titled sophomore album Quiet Hollers introduced them to a much broader audience, drawing praise both for the breadth of its influences and for Wilde’s lyricism. Consequence of Sound called it a “beautiful portrait… breaking the confines of roots music” with PopMatters aptly noting the band’s “strong post-hardcore influence.” The album brought the band to Europe for the first time, selling out shows there and back at home stateside. Breakout singles found their way onto TV shows, coffeehouse playlists, and a #9 debut on the FMQB college and indie charts. Quiet Hollers signed with the indie label SonaBLAST! for their third album, Amen Breaks. The album draws parallels between the modern entertainment landscape and the cultural crossover of the 1970s– another decade marred by division, political corruption, and terrorist bombs. Their shape-shifting palate makes use of orchestral strings and brass, vintage drum-machines and samples (including the Amen Break, the most sampled piece of music in history). Amen Breaks explores themes of spirituality, sexuality, and mental illness.

The Georgia Flood w/ Whitehall live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Groove-heavy and Genre-bending, The Georgia Flood’s music has evolved over the years. Their new album, People Like Ourselves, draws on indelible melodies, clever lyrics, and an infectious energy; weaving together an EP that hits all the right notes. The Atlanta based duo, Lane Kelly and Brooks Mason, are brothers who began playing when they were seven and nine years old respectively. Hustling birthday parties and family reunions the brothers changed sounds numerous times through their teens. Drawing on their exploration of numerous genres, their songwriting channels classic guitar driving riffs with modern pop sensibilities. Self-financed, the band went into Jason Hoard’s Black Cat Studio to put together the seven songs contained within their new EP. Don’t let the EP status fool you though, the band toiled over 30+ tracks to carve out their favorites, coalescing into seven songs that journey through themes of love, good times, and tragedy. “We had a really tough time choosing just a few,” explains Brooks, The Georgia Flood’s lead guitar player and singer,.“We had so many songs that really brought the listener to amazing moments.” “Whistle King,” the records infectious first single, encompasses much of what the record is about. “On the surface it seems sort of nonsensical and fun but the song really describes how crazy our lifestyle is on the road,” explains Lane, who plays bass and sings harmonies. “Playing in an indie band is a constant state of discovery, and lyrically, “Whistle King” exemplifies much of that exhilaration and frustration.” After the record’s release on December 2nd, The Georgia Flood will be touring throughout the Southeast into the New Year. With a dynamic live set, the band intends to bring their music to ears the good old fashioned way, one club at a time.
Whitehall is the musical child of five young musicians based in Charleston, SC. since being formed in the winter of 2014, Whitehall has fused together the musical backgrounds of each member to create a diverse and unique style that is still evolving. Incorporating elements of rock, funk, jam, pop, folk, jazz, alt, and soul, the band thrives on experimenting and growing their sound with each note, then translating it all into a high energy, kick-ass live show.
