Atlas Road Crew live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

South Carolina rock 'n' roll shot with southern soul accents. Formed in fall of 2011, Atlas Road Crew (A.R.C) is rapidly building one of the most loyal fan bases on the East Coast, packing venues to capacity from South Carolina to New York City, and expanding rapidly to major US cities in between. The overwhelming positive response to the band’s latest recorded effort Halfway to Hopkins, produced by Grammy Award winning producer Rick Beato, has this young band quickly becoming the South East’s “must see” live act of 2015. Halfway to Hopkins is a sonic blast from start to finish, bringing swampy southern accents to fresh, contemporary tunes while managing to capture the band’s blistering live show prowess on tape. The title refers to a small community outside Columbia where the band lived for several years after graduating from the nearby University of South Carolina. “That house, which was halfway between Columbia and Hopkins on the southeast side of town, was where we really began to come together,” Says drummer Patrick Drohan. “We knew then we wanted to become more than just another bar band.” Riding the momentum of the record release, Atlas Road Crew’s constant touring led them to a 6 week European tour in early 2016 followed by an aggressive US club and festival run. Aussie rock ‘n’ roll blog 100 Percent Rock sums it all up nicely in their review, saying in no uncertain terms “This is EXACTLY the sort of music we should be listening to right now: bands taking old favourites and adding new directions, writing great songs, delivering ace performances. This is the good stuff.”

Universal Sigh live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Universal Sigh is a high energy, metamorphic rock show. Hailing from Athens, GA the foursome features a two-guitar attack and driving rhythm section, producing versatile music which reflects a deep fondness for artists such as Radiohead, Snarky Puppy, and Umphrey’s McGee. Influenced by a myriad of musical styles, the quartet has crafted a diverse catalog, which includes both lyrical tunes and instrumental arrangements. Each song is a voyage, with harmonious melodies soaring through epic peaks and dramatic descents into electrifying funk grooves. Fluid and dynamic, the Sigh is equipped with an abundance of compositions to energize any musical atmosphere. Universal Sigh’s guitarist and drummer Pace and Jones Maynard, developed together as young musicians playing long hours in their parents’ basement. In high school, Jones met songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Steve Terry, and the two took playing together like fish to water. The expansive music scene in Athens paved the way for the band to meet Austin Parker, a soulful vocalist with a love for laying down the bass. Pace, Steve, Jones, and Austin have been at the forefront of all song writing and live performances. However, the band frequently collaborates original music with special guests, including full brass sections, percussion, and guest vocalists. Their openness allows every show to be a special surprise. May 2016 ushered in the anticipated release of Universal Sigh’s first album, Atoms & Void. While improvisation is a staple component of the live show, Atoms & Void displays a thoughtfulness to innovatively diversify arrangements of rock songs, blues tunes, and futuristic jazz alike. The debut album explores the uncanny nature of song structure and provides lyrical content inspired by the turmoil and beauty of the human condition. The core four presents Atoms & Void, as a material extension to connect the listener to the inherent music within everyone.

Jon Roniger & the Good For Nuthin’ Band live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

Free

Jon Roniger is to NEW ORLEANS what Dante is to the inferno's paradise. He thrives, and gets his energetic sustenance from the visceral underbelly swooning in the pastels and watercolors of the ever-changing canvas of the NOLA hurricane. Jon, a New Orleans native, buccaneer, and cosmic swashbuckling songwriter hammers harmonic heaven five nights a week in the horn dazzling bistros and back-beat clubs of the original sin city. He's infamous for original songs of debaucheries and poetic mayhem straight out of the devil's den. Simply stated in his song “ NEW ORLEANS LULLABY “, he says, “ I love the calamity, that holy insanity, I’m honored to swim in her angelic profanity”. As goes the voodoo ham hock and the unholy trinity, so goes the sum of the soulful music of Jon Roniger. With his vast repertoire of seven albums to date, including “Live at the Mint” in 2015, the 2014 “Gypsyland” in which he sings primarily in French, “Dirty Gypsy” in 2013 which boasts an ambitious track listing of 28 acoustic songs, and “NOLA Rolls” as his 2012 EP, versatility comes to Roniger as naturally as eating oysters and howling at a wrecking ball moon. His primary co-writer is the talented gyspy swinger Chris Gantry, who had a #1 hit, “Dreams of the Everyday Housewife” in 1968, and worked with musical legends including Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson. When Roniger is not busy stewing concoctions of jazz, folk and blues for his own albums, or writing in a variety of styles for others, he can be found writing and composing music for film and television. You can hear his work in the feature film "Island of Fantasy" (2010), the TV show “Platinum Babies” (2012), various songs on HGTV and a theme song for UK Based company, Bedford for Beds. In addition, he can be seen in a small acting roll for a Belvita Breakfast Snacks commercial from 2014. A renaissance pirate on the ship of gypsy dreams, Jon Roniger sways with creative mojo. If you can wrap your cocktail umbrella around this blazing comet, do it! Your DNA will thank you!

Magnolia Moon w/ Vintage Pistol live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Magnolia Moon is a Macon-based band with roots running all the way down to the coast of Mississippi where Zack Horton (Vocals/Guitar) and brother Jesse Horton (Drums) were born and raised. Another set of brothers, Jonathan Crowell (Bass) and Christopher Crowell (Guitar), join the Hortons, along with Dwayne Boswell (Keys), in completing the dynamic five-piece band. Magnolia Moon is rock ‘n’ roll, plain and simple—but there is nothing plain or simple about their sound. With grit and soul, they pay homage to the 1960s-70s era of music, inspired by artists such as Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and The Allman Brothers Band. Vintage Pistol Imagine if The Allman Brothers Band went on a trippy magic carpet ride with The Black Keys and all of it was being narrated by Van "The Man" Morrison. That is pretty much Vintage Pistol, a 5 Piece rock band out of Fayetteville, AR. Influenced by the sounds of psychedelic, roots, rock music Vintage Pistol is doing just as its name states and is staying vintage and true to the sounds that were laid down by the Giants before them. The band released its 2nd EP "The Second Amendment" in August 2016 and plan to have their first LP out in the Spring of 18’. Vintage Pistol has played along side the likes of Doyle Bramhall ii, Devon Allman, Andy Frasco and The UN, Consider The Source, Marc Broussard, Ben Miller Band, Eric Lindell, Wild Adriatic, Quaker City Nighthawks, Charlie Crockett, Aaron Kamm & The One Drops, Kalu and The Electric Joint, Big Something, Kris Lager Band, Groovement, Calliope Musicals, and more. Mississippi John Doude & Voodoo Panther live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

Free

Mississippi John Doude is blues, rock, folk and country all rolled into one, yet none of these would quite describe his unique style. With a sound that’s as swampy as snake oil, and as gritty as the cloud of dust on a dry dirt road, MJD’s sweaty blues riffs pull you in like quicksand, while his driving beats hypnotize like tribal war drums, creating a juke joint trance that’s infectiously nasty. From barn-burning country bluegrass to delta blues, MJD’s stripped down roots music takes you back to where American music began, capturing the soul of the blues, the heart of country, and the attitude of punk-rock along the way. At shows, people invariably stomp their feet, clap, whoop and holler a lot. They just can’t seem to help it. The steady throb of the kick drum is infectious, and the swampy sound of an old dobro and finger-picked guitar just gets people excited. Currently touring as “Mississippi John Doude’s Voodoo Panther”, with Ernesto Gomez on bass, MJD is taking the Southeastern circuit by storm. While many people are impressed by his live performances, MJD is first and foremost, a songwriter, spinning yarns of tragedy and murder, of love lost and hope found, and of the desperation born of hard times. Representing the traditional music of poor Southerners, MJD’s songs conjure images of abandoned shacks overrun with kudzu, old-time tent revivals, and run-down fish houses. Blending musical styles of groups who rarely interact, MJD’s music celebrates the common elements of all humanity, while crucifying the perceptions that drive us apart. At times, lighthearted and at others, serious, MJD’s music is undeniably genuine. “…at some point in my development , I quit trying to be anything in particular, and just let whatever comes naturally, happen.” says John, “Truly inspired music flows through you, not from you.” Growing up in Mississippi exposed John to a unique blend of music and culture, which is reflected in his songs. From church, where his parents led the singing every time the doors were open, to the juke joints he would slip off to on the weekends, music was always his therapy, his escape. “I was actually forbidden from listening to blues, rock, and country by my family. That’s probably why I love them so much.” Following his debut solo release in 2007, on Blues Mutation Records, MJD has been touring the southeast, gathering momentum as his “anti-band” approach earns him the respect of seasoned musicians and party-goers alike.

The Voodoo Fix w/ Them Dirty Roses live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Formed in southern Los Angeles, The Voodoo Fix are a must see live band with a sound that echoes the soul of rock & roll, West Coast funk, and Chicago Blues. With a constant touring schedule, the band developed a cult fan base spanning the US and Europe. On their new album Back For More, The Voodoo Fix creates an alluring sound filled with primal grooves and hook-laden melodies greased with soul. After relocating to Nashville, the band caught the attention of independent radio giant Lightning 100's Music City Mayhem, winning the competition and earning an evening slot at Live on the Green Music Festival with the likes of Michael Franti, Spoon, Portugal the Man, and Saint Paul & The Broken Bones. The Voodoo Fix is built from the ground up with an air tight show that can only be earned through years of working the stage. Wielding a balance of youthful energy and old-school show business, the band and crew are clearly in it for the people, leaving crowds ecstatic, energized, and wanting more. Now with two European tours under their belt, a packed schedule across the US, and a new record under way, The Voodoo Fix are cementing their place in rock and roll while growing an empire built on one undeniable live show. Them Dirty Roses Born and raised in the Bama clay, these boys are as southern as they come. Taught how to bend a string and break a heart by Skynyrd and Hank, brothers James and Frank Ford along with their hometown friends Andrew Davis and Ben Crain formed the southern rock band known as Them Dirty Roses. Piling into an RV with their guitars, a bottle of party liquor (in the cooler), and shotguns in tow, they made their way from Gadsden, AL to Nashville, TN. All living all under one roof, Them Dirty Roses are chasing the quintessential rock and roll American Dream. Their live show calls for a shot of whiskey and a 2 for 1 special -- BUT what that really means is you better be ready to throw back 12 for 6 and shake it with the Dirty Boys.
