First Friday featuring OTIS wsg Royal Johnson live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

Deep in South Central Kentucky authentic music is alive and well through native musicians who are still testifying to brothers and sisters all around the world. OTIS has taken in a steady diet of Roots, Blues, and Classic Rock and Roll, and created their own unique sound. Otis draws from the raw electric sounds of Muddy Waters and stirs in a heavy influence of Southern sounds, courtesy of The Allman Brothers Band, Wet Willie, and more. This sums up what the sound of Otis is musically and gives a glimpse into the sound and soul of the four-piece band. The members of Otis consist of Boone Froggett vocals/guitar, Steve Jewell guitar, John Seeley bass, and Andrew Gilpin drums. The members of Otis share the same vision of writing and creating organic music while taking their audience to church by hitting on all emotions. If a stage filled with vintage music gear and Blues flavored Rock and Roll music is something you enjoy, then it's time to drink from the healing waters of Otis! The Otis electric Rock N' Roll revival is coming soon to a town near you! Royal Johnson, nominated by the readers of the 11th Hour as Macon’s Best Rock Band for 2018, is a southern-fried rock band from middle Georgia with thick elements of funk and blues. RJ has released two albums since its inception in 2014. The first was a home studio recording called Belly Full that sold several hundred copies and garnered high praise. The release was recorded at Muscadine Studios, home of legendary producer and musician Paul Hornsby, most known for his work with the Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels and Wet Willie, and for his time playing in Hourglass with Duane and Gregg Allman. A third album is expected late 2018. In four years the band has booked hundreds of dates all over the southeast independently. Emma’s Lounge w/Swim In The Wild live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

On its surface, Emma's Lounge is a “Space Age Folk Wave” band from Asheville, NC. But it’s more than that. Emma’s Lounge is a place where you can show up as you are, sink into and embrace what you’re facing through dancing out all of the heebie jeebies to releasing some tears of angst or joy, to singing at the top of your lungs, to reaching over and holding your neighbor’s hand just to feel the connection. Emma’s Lounge is a community where the love flows for music and each other. Emma’s Lounge offers the “spectrum of feels” to their listeners. They believe that life is about embracing all of its ups and downs. The music tells their stories through encompassing all aspects from the sweet healing soul vibrations of church-like harmonies to the bright funky dance parties to the darkness and rebelliousness of angry metal and punk rock. They write about what they’re experiencing, whether it’s tragic loss or the high feeling of connection with their tribe and literally everything in between. They have loads of energy that is devoted to making an impact wherever they go. Their music, simply put, is an invitation to be vulnerable: to break down the walls that keep us disconnected and inauthentic. Emma’s Lounge is composed of Logan Venderlic, Meg Heathman, Mackenzie Richburg, Emma Forster, Brendan Bower, and a growing tribe of strange birds from all over the country.

The Get Right Band live at The Hummingbird in Downtown Macon

$5

"The Get Right Band are the type of performers that you just know will break out. Their songs are infectious and take you immediately to a very happy place. The lyrics are smart and bear weight." -The Huffington Post THE GET RIGHT BAND is “hip-shaking, earthquaking pure funk fun” (The Alternate Root). They are one of Relix Magazine’s “On The Verge” picks, Home Grown Music Network’s 2015 “Best New Band of the Year,” and were voted “Best Progressive Band” in Western North Carolina by Mountain Xpress readers. They have performed on the famed World Cafe, a nationally syndicated NPR show, and have brought their unique sound to major festivals and venues such as FloydFest, The Orange Peel, Music City Roots TV Show, The Green Parrot, Arlene’s Grocery, and Riverbend Fest. Combining catchy, clever, honest songwriting with musical expertise and fearless improvisation, the live show promises to move your head, heart, and hips. “An ass shaking good time.” -Relix Magazine The band is built on the musical brotherhood that guitarist/vocalist Silas Durocher and bassist Jesse Gentry have formed playing music together since middle school. Durocher, who is a trained composer and has been commissioned to write for symphonies and chamber groups, possesses guitar chops that can soothe or rage and a charismatic swagger as a frontman and a singer. “Durocher has an impressive range and rich clarity to his vocals—think a more soulful Dan Auerbach” (Connect Savannah). Gentry’s virtuosic bass playing “catapults from elastic to nasty” (The Mountain Xpress). With the addition of Jian-Claude Mears, a drummer with “precision, passion, and an inescapable momentum” (Live For Live Music), the group’s sound has become an unstoppable force. They have been wowing audiences around the country and the Caribbean since their inception in 2011 with an unparalleled live show and a relentless tour schedule. “I love this song!” -Marc Maron, of WTF podcast On August 5, 2016, The Get Right Band released their third studio album, Who’s in Charge? The record was made at Asheville’s legendary Echo Mountain Studios (Widespread Panic, Zac Brown Band, Smashing Pumpkins), engineered, mixed, and co-produced by Julian Dreyer (The Avett Brothers, Dawes, Band of Horses), and mastered by six-time Grammy winner Brian Lucey (The Black Keys, Grace Potter, Dr. John, Beck). The album has received praise and support from such giants as The Huffington Post, NPR, Relix, WTF with Marc Maron, Live For Live Music, PopWrapped, and dozens of radio stations around the country. While seamlessly blending a number of different genres, the CD is held together by The Get Right Band’s honest songwriting, fierce playing, and strong self-identity. The powerful songs and the pop/rock/psychedelic approach to production puts the album in the realm of acts like My Morning Jacket, Dr. Dog, and The Black Keys (with hints of Sublime and early Chili Peppers). “Tight and diverse jams and a distinctive, intellectual but accessible worldview.” -Live For Live Music The Get Right Band has had the honor of playing shows with national acts such as Galactic, Rusted Root, Victor Wooten Band, Martin Barre (of Jethro Tull), Turkuaz, Mike Dillon Band, Jeff Sipe Trio, Yo Mama’s Big Fat Booty Band, Jeff Coffin’s Mutet, Larry Keel, and Bobby Lee Rodgers.

Them Dirty Roses Born and raised in the Bama clay, these boys are as southern as they come. Taught how to bend a string and break a heart by Skynyrd and Hank, brothers James and Frank Ford along with their hometown friends Andrew Davis and Ben Crain formed the southern rock band known as Them Dirty Roses. Piling into an RV with their guitars, a bottle of party liquor (in the cooler), and shotguns in tow, they made their way from Gadsden, AL to Nashville, TN. All living all under one roof, Them Dirty Roses are chasing the quintessential rock and roll American Dream. Their live show calls for a shot of whiskey and a 2 for 1 special -- BUT what that really means is you better be ready to throw back 12 for 6 and shake it with the Dirty Boys.
